Understanding
Daniel's prophecy of the seventy
weeks is essential for comp rehending
scriptural prophecy. The term "weeks"
is a Hebrew word "shabua" that
can be applied to any period of seven:
i.e.: seven days, seven months, seven
years, etc. When rightly dividing
the word of truth, we can safely
conclude that Daniel is referring to
seventy "seven year" periods.
Daniel 9:24 reference seventy weeks
that are prophetically related as it
focuses on God's actions with Israel.
The seventy weeks are comprised of two
periods: the first being 69 weeks
and the second being the seventieth
week.
At the
end of the first period, concluding with
the 69th week, Christ will be cut off
and the city of Jerusalem with all its
assets with be destroyed. The
cutting off of the Messiah (Daniel
9:26) refers to the death of Christ
at Calvary on the old rugged cross.
It is
indicative that a period of time or gap
of time will fall in between the 69th
and 70th week. We are presently
living in that gap period known as "The
Church Age". The events of
the 69 weeks have been fulfilled
literally. The seventieth week has yet
to be fulfilled and will commence when
the Church is raptured from the earth. The final seven
years of Daniel's prophecy will be the
Great Tribulation when God judges Israel
and ultimately restores her. The
exposition of the Great Tribulation
period is expounded in Revelation
chapters 4 through 19. The
seventieth week will end with the
triumphant return of Jesus Christ to
rule and reign for one-thousand years
with His Bride, the Body of Christ (Revelation
19:11,21).
